One of India’s biggest public sector general insurer, New India Assurance (NIA) led consortium of public sector insurance companies has been awarded the contract to insure Air India’s huge fleet of 126 aircrafts worth 9.5 billion dollars. The consortium outbid the tender submitted by private general insurance companies, for this contract floated by Air India. NIA will insure Air India for 9.5 billion insurance cover for a premium of $22.5 million, which would be a one of the biggest aircraft insurance deals in the whole of Southeast Asia. New Pension Scheme - Amendment in the date of implementation- status update

Dear Sir,

As you are aware, the issuance of Notification for amendment in the Pension Scheme to give effect to the change in the date of implementation of the New Pension Scheme was pending with the Ministry due to the reluctance of the Law Ministry for going ahead with such issuance while 2 Court Cases on introduction of New Pension Scheme in the Member Companies were pending.

We had sought to address the situation by approaching the Attorney General of India for his opinion and he was kind enough to opine that pendency of the two sub-judice cases should not come in the way of issuance of the Notification for changing the date of implementation of New Pension Scheme in our Member Companies.

Armed with the opinion of the Attorney General, we then approached our Administrative Ministry to place the same before the Law Ministry for review of their position in this regard.

We are pleased to inform you that the Law Ministry has accepted the opinion of the Learned Attorney General and has now agreed to issue the requisite Notification for changing the date of implementation of the NPS from 01.01.2004 to 01.04.2010.

We have accordingly submitted the draft Notifications for amendment in the Pension Scheme, 1995 as also consequential amendments in the 3 Rationalization Schemes for Officers, Development Staff and the Class III / IV employees to our Administrative Ministry today.
